PROFESSIONAL, CARING, LICENCED & INSURED HOME BOARDING, DAY CARE & WALKING IN RURAL BERE REGIS, DORSET
'Your hound, our home'
Welcome to Hounds & Houses, a home boarding and day care service in our rural home setting in Bere Regis, Dorset. We have over 20 years of pet ownership, our two family dogs Luna & Isla are our fur babies and you can rest assured yours will be looked after as part of our family.
We have had the privilege of walking other peoples dogs for over 4 years, the owners have become friends and we get lots of requests to join us on walks (we are known for going off piste and not taking the easy route! it's more fun for the dogs and us too!) and the dogs have become an extension of our family.
In 2024, we moved to Bere Regis; one of the main reasons for the move was to have a bigger garden to be able to accommodate and look after other peoples dogs in our home. We are licenced by Dorset Council (11019), insured, first aid trained, enhanced DBS checked and have excellent references.
We know that finding the right place for your dog to stay whilst you are at work or away can be worrying and stressful, we are experienced with dogs of all ages and breeds and we encourage you to come and join us first for a walk and a chat where we can discuss your dogs needs.
We very much look forward to meeting with you and your dogs to discuss how we can help you.
When you live a busy life, it is hard to consistently provide the attention and care that your dogs can require and sometimes demand. We pride ourselves on customer satisfaction, reliability, and care towards your dog, Your dogs happiness and well being is our key priority and we strive to provide a service we would want our own dogs to receive.
- All dogs will have a meet and greet to establish suitability, if all parties agree to proceed further then any stays three nights or more require a one night trial stay. (payable)
- Your dog will be part of the family, they will be welcomed into our home and treated the same as our own two dogs, Luna & Isla. Lots of fuss, cuddles and interactions.
- We encourage you to bring your dogs bed/blankets to make them feel comfortable, we do have plenty of spares and lots of dog towels to dry their paws after walks. Your dog’s bed can be put where they feel comfortable in the house downstairs. Luna & Isla are crate trained and like sleeping in their crates, we do have spare crates if your dog also likes a crate, but this is not compulsory.
- We will go for two walks a day, we like the forest and are very lucky to have lots of beautiful places for dogs to walk on our doorstep. We always like to vary our walks to make it interesting for the dogs and ourselves. Once it is safe to do so your dogs will be let off the lead unless you have advised us your dog cannot go off lead.
- We have a suitable vehicle to transport your dogs safely and securely which allows us to explore walks further afield.
- When your dog arrives, we will put another ID tag onto your dog’s collar with our details on.
- We offer an enrichment programme for all dogs staying with us; some examples include: play time in our secure gardens with two barriers between dog and any exit, with dog toys, a dog ball pit, water play in warmer weather with a sprinkler and dog paddling pool, one to one time, wash, blow-dry and brush, scent work in the garden with treats and toys, socialisation with other dogs.
Please reach us at info@houndsandhouses.co.uk if you cannot find an answer to your question.
All over, we like to vary walks every day, some favourite spots are Bere Regis, we have Bere Stream at the back of our home, Wareham Forest, and local beaches. We walk away from busy roads, We would not take your dog anywhere that we would not feel comfortable taking our own dogs.
For full day care dogs including boarding dogs we will go on two walks per day.
This is a very common question and we always suggest to take things slowly. We can meet for a walk in a mutual space first, then perhaps a walk and sniff around our home gardens. If we all feel comfortable then a look around our home and then we can discuss some familiarisation sessions before any long / overnight stays.
Yes we are fully insured and licenced (11019) by Dorset Council but do require each individual dog to have their own insurance just in case of an emergency.
Yes we do walk dogs off the lead, if you would prefer your dog to be kept on the lead that is ok too. Before walking your dog off the lead, I would require a signed ‘off lead’ consent form by the owner of the dog.
Male dogs need to be neutered and for female dogs not to be in season during overnight stays.
Yes they do need to be fully vaccinated, wormed and up to date with flea treatment. Proof of vaccinations required.
